Camera Work Techniques

This video is a sample of 8 camera techniques. We start off with the pan shot and tilt shot, these shots were particularly easy as all I had to do was move the camera left and right and tilt it up and down. We then move to the dolly shot, this shot was harder than I expected because typically the camera moves on a still platform which I did not have so I had to hold the camera as still as possible. Next is the tracking shot, this shot was easy as all I had to do was record and follow a moving object. The handheld shot was simple because I just took a normal video with my hands and moved the camera around a lot. The zoom and reverse zoom were simple as well because I had to use my phone to zoom in and out for the shots. Lastly, the boom shot was harder to achieve because it is like a tilt but also looking down so I had to find a good angle and the stairs was perfect for this shot.

Editing

The first shot, the contrast shot demonstrates diegetic sound as you can hear the ball bouncing towards the camera and the dog running after it. This shot demonstrates a contrast shot as you see two separate shots from difference settings going back and forth. The second shot, the parallel shot is shown by a mother wearing a hat and it zooms in and comes back out with her daughter to show the remembrance in each other. The symbolism shot uses music and dialogue. This shot is showing the symbolism of freedom as she is waving the flag and playing the song Party in the USA. The simultaneity shot also uses diegetic sound of the golf cart driving on the road. This shot is shown by the golf cart driver driving past the house going back from her driving to the shot from the front of the house. Lastly, the leitmotif uses a non-diegetic sound as the sound of the dog food being scooped catches the dog's attention and they all run downstairs to eat to create the chaotic effect of the dogs try

Creating Foley Sounds

In this assignment, we were supposed to become artists and learn first hand how to produce Foley sounds. Foley sounds are not as easy as they seem, you have to have the right materials and figure out how to effectively produce these sounds. These sounds are created severally and are combined and some are even overlapped. This process was difficult because without having the right materials or setting, the sounds come from scratch. We had to find objects, such as the ball to make the sounds realistic and if we didn't have the materials (for example, the dog), we had to find them online and overlap it with other sounds.
